This is a really well written book which had me laughing out loud innumerable times as I read it. Unusual for a book of this genre, it doesn't disparage men at all, it simply and humorously points out some of the stereotypical traits of men and gives the author's take on them. It is obvious that she doesn't hate men as so many other female authors of books in this genre seem to. She, in fact, revels in the differences between "us and them" and faces the challenges of her committed relationship; i.e., marriage, with the wit and understanding which comes from giving half a damn about the person she chose to spend her life with. Applause...more applause!!! Yea!

After reading a number of books in this genre and being appalled by the vitriolic and obvious disdain (bordering on, or crossing the line into hatred) for men which many of these authors espouse, it was really refreshing to find this book which so eloquently and tactfully (yet humorously) made its points. Oh sure, I can't agree that this book and all its views pertain to each and every man...but there are parts to which each guy can lay claim and hopefully sit back and have a laugh at himself and, perhaps, even learn a thing or two. I give this one 4 ½ stars...oops...gotta go. I hear the wife calling:
"Honey?"
"Yes dear..."
"Where are you???"
"I'm in the garage reading a book."
"Really! What is it?"
"Nothing..." #Mancode

I still find myself thinking of certain parts of this book and how they are relevant to something that has happenned to me or to a friend of mine.
I found myself feeling so many things again and empathizing with and envying her for her experiences as well. I also laughed out loud in several parts which for any book is a real measure of success in my opinion.
If I hadn't read this I would never have understood why women continue to choose to birth at home even when faced with so much pressure by the medical experts around them.
I will have others read this who went through trauma as teenagers who find themselves unable to figure out why they are "just now" finding the need to cope with it.

For 13 years I have read parenting books, visited mommy message boards, and googled parenting advice. For 13 years I have wondered where I have gone wrong and why my life as a mother isn't picture perfect. Then Jill and her website and this amazing book came along. Now I know that not only am I not alone, but that it is ok to ignore the kids banging on the bathroom door while you take the only shower you have had in three days and that my children are not the only ones to refuse to eat anything but processed orange foods (grilled cheese and mac and cheese out of the "blue box") for most of their young lives. And the confessions? O...M...G! Most of them had me in tears from laughing, but there were a few that had me in tears of sadness for the poor mommy, mostly because I had felt her pain at one point in time.

This book was amazing and should be read by every mother and mother to be. There are a few on my list who will be getting this book.

I love my children dearly, but sometimes I wonder how I got through some moments with them without spending the rest of my days in a comfortable straight jacket and a nice, padded room. And now I know I am not alone.

Needing money and desperate, Derrick donates some of his sperm for money but later gives the money back with a letter that he doesn't want his sperm used and wishes it was destroyed knowing that he could never live life knowing that he had a child out in the world. Later, he gets a letter stating that a recipient has chose his sperm. Of course, he needs to find this women so he could know for sure if he does have a child on the way. He does end up finding Jill and within minutes of meeting she goes into labor.

It's not easy to find a book that you can't find a flaw. With Jill and Derrick, I loved their personalities and their faults, they clicked so well and I never ha the urge to scream at the book because one was being stupid or didn't do what I wanted them to do or one say the wrong thing. Derrick has a big loving family (I want to say he has seven brothers and two sisters but don't quote me on that) amd you can't help but love them all, especially when all the brothers are together and messing and picking on each other. It's amazing that one mistake can bring so many people together and bring in so much love.

This was a great book that I would recommend to anyone and I can't wait to read more of Mrs. Ragan's books!!!
